A downloadable Mason for Windows

Are you the killer or are you an innocent person? Play and find out.
Mason is a hyper short, story driven interactive fiction. It is a linier experience with the atmosphere and dialogue. Towards the end, little bit of walking. Enjoy the game.
Please, write down comments, criticisms and suggestion for the game. This is just a prototype, not a fully made game. Thanks for support and time.

SPECIAL THANKS TO TIFFANY GILLEY - inspired the game with the name.

Mason, Mason, Mason...what have you done.

Played this as the final game of a 3 Scary Games video, very short game, wasn't thinking much of it at first. But it was entertaining, and interesting. It was an accident, all of it was an accident, I swear.. (time stamps in video description!)

Thanks a lot for playing my game. The commentary was exceptional πŸ’Œ

(+1)

Very short game, but it didn't need to be longer because it was impactful as is ^-^

Huge thanks for your video! I am always happy to see you playing my games and giving the most entertaining commentary. Cheers ✌

(+1)

Twisted ending

Thanks for playing πŸ’Œ

(+1)

Short but I liked it! Nicely done!

Thanks for playing my game. I truly appreciate your feedback. Best to you πŸ’Œ

(+1)

Soo, idk what's going on in the comments, but I liked this game. I was impressed that this game was made in such a short period of time. (I really do need to start reading descriptions so I know how long the game will be, I've been surprised twice this week from 2 different games by different people) Good job!

Thanks for playing my game.
Don't worry, some people are spamming in my comments and trying to spread toxic ideas about me and mock my games. It is fine. Thanks again for support and feedback πŸ’Œ

(+1)

Of course! Sorry about that.

(+2)

Hi! I noticed you’d commented on my video. I usually clarify what I liked about the game and what I didn’t to maybe help you in the future but everything is just my opinion so do with it as you please! I would of liked if you had some voice overs seeing that the small game had a lot of dialogue and that it isn’t a visual novel. Also I thought the ending was funny and I enjoyed it. I just don’t like how 90 percent of the game was reading. Cause it didn’t feel much like a game but maybe that’s what you were going for?

Once again, thanks for playing. Voice over could have been a good idea, yes, but the project was short, it is just that.

Sorry, but the game is listed as an interactive fiction - software simulating environments in which players use text to stimulate and influence the environments and sometimes control characters, works in this form can be understood as literary narratives, in the form of interactive narrations. I truly apologize if the game was not what you thought it would be. I will improve on next games. Sorry.

Edit: Again, sorry if this was a bad experience. Good day.

im murderer

Thanks for playing πŸ’Œ

Kubz Scouts - pretty huge YouTuber played Mason and I was excited with his little playthrough of my silly game. His son, apparently is named Mason and yeah, things ended on a bad note, but I am super happy and proud if this.

This was actually pretty well done; the dialogues were fairly realistic and had the hint of seriousness and darkness to have a great impact. Wasn't expecting it to end that soon, thought it would have gone on for longer (And would have been fun if it had! Though I think you effectively told a story in the amount of time the game took!) Though I personally think that allowing Mason to leave  and the officer saying something like, "You won't be gone for long.." would have alluded to the game's ambiguity more and made the reveal more impactful, I still think that the ending was pretty well done! Overall it was a fun smol game!

Thanks for the very detailed and profound feedback πŸ’Œ
I truly loved the playthrough, especially the voice-over you did and all I can say is, I will definitely try to make a sequel for it. Cheers man 🍻

(+1)

I dont know if i missed something or if its really just that short either way i get to bonk someone so im fine

The game is not "that short", but it is short. If you skip the dialogue and if you are not invested in the game, I guess all the games can be "that short" - just saying this based on your playthrough, which was just opening and closing the game. But, well, not everyone has the same experience. Good day πŸ‘

(+1)

A short and sweet experience! Great job! Had me fooled!

(+1)

Huge thanks for playing this man! Glad to see you enjoying yet another one. Cheers ✌

You are very welcome! Every game is just a hit!

(+1)

Entertaining game. Not sure if Mason should still be detained if there are no charges pressed and alibi checked out. The ending was unexpected, sort of, didn't know pressing interact would do that. As far as critique (I'm really easy) I'd say it's not intuitive to hop over the fence to do...that. Thanks for creating haha...

(+1)

Thanks for playing.
When you are a primary suspect and have the right to an attorney, unless you say yes, you are detained without 36 and up to 96 hours, because it is a first degree murder, even you have an alibi, which contradicts the finger prints. It does happen, sometimes.
As for the "hop over the fence" - there was supposed to be a wall there and every playthrough shows the person going towards the opening. You just simple went the wrong way, for no reason at you got a bug. It is not supposed to be played like that, but well, each player has a different experience. Next time, look at the "clear" opening, which the game provides you with. Thanks 😊

(+1)

Thanks, I do know without an attorney cops can do quite a bit within the lines. You're correct that it's not black/white.

And, I usually play games off-key, it's just my personality. Even when you say "use the clear opening" I probably still won't find it, lol.

(+1)

Quite a unique type of horror experience for me. Obviously would recommend to anyone! Here's my play through if you're interested:

Deeply appreciate the feedback. It was great. Best to you πŸ‘

(+2)

I would say it's a promising prototype. The dialogue was written very well, apart from the "That's sus" :D, that kind of took me out of it. I think the first scene could use some more ambient texture apart from the light buzzing, just to make the space even more believable.

But apart from that I enjoyed it. Reminds me of the pulp fiction genre, just stories that get straight to the point and deliver what they promised. I would definitely play a longer version of this!

(+1)

Thanks Mike. Always great to see your review.
Well, most people did not understand the gesture, but I guess, nowadays you should make everything direct, because, no offence, people are having hard trouble understanding things. When you are reading, "That's sus...- you click and the sound comes up, meaning that the officer was interrupted - he even says that in the next dialogue. He did not say "sus", he was supposed to say "suspicious" and was cut out.
As for the ambient textures, I did not quite understand what you were saying about it. Maybe you meant ambient "noise"? Because then you are correct, the game does need some ambient sounds.
Mason's character will definitely return, yes.

(+1)

Oh yeah that makes a lot more sense now. I guess the way you cut out "suspicious" made me think of the meme first thing, rather than him being cut off by the intercom. Honestly I think if you want to avoid that then the best solution would be to do "suspi-" or something, instead of sus. Cause I think for most players the meme is still the first thing that comes to mind. And yes I meant ambient sounds. Looking forward to what Mason will come up with :D

The age old question: To Horny Bonk? Or to Bonk the Horny?

Super grateful for the awesome playthrough. Cheers ✌

(+1)

Very interesting and well written short game. Keep up the great work!

Glad you enjoyed the game. Loved your feedback about the dialogue and thanks for the suggestion too. Cheers πŸ’Œ

(+1)

Nice little game! I kind of wish there was something more to do in the game, but it worked well for what was there and was a change of pace compared to your normal work. Good job and I hope you keep on creating!

Thanks a lot, again πŸ’Œ I can't express how grateful I am with just words. Best to you man.

(+1)

It's a nice short game and I liked the banter between the cop and Mason as well. I kinda wish we saw the situations that led up to Mason's current situation. But other then that, nice game.

Here's my channel for other games I have played. https://www.youtube.com/c/Levont

Thanks for playing man. I will definitely look into extending the game or maybe making a sequel to it. Cheers ✌

(+1)

This was the first game I played in this video! Great job Niven! I thought for what this was, and how short it was, that it was pretty decent! I love the interrogation scene between the cop and the player and the shocking reveal at the end. I do wish there was more clarity on who we were at the end of the game, but I think I got it right! Awesome short game!

Thanks Don! Loved your playthrough. Truly appreciate the attention to details. I will definitely make a longer sequel 🍻

(+1)

Your game starts at 00:00. Great storytelling. It was short and effective. You drew us in and still shocked us at the end. Truly amazing! Keep up the good work.

The video was fun to watch! Just fun! fun! Thanks guys ✌

(+1)

Great game.  Only criticism is that its too short.  I think you nailed this very well.  You peaked my interest from the beginning with a great story.  The atmosphere was maintained the entire time I played.

Warning spoiler below.

I tough the ending was quite cool. We were at the pub 10 hours ago, but 11 hours ago we killed our ex  Or did we, I am thinking maybe it was us holding the bat, maybe we just got to control the killer.

Is there another ending in which we can get on our bike and ride way leaving her untouched by us?  Maybe we could drop the bat or something only for a killer to come get it.

Thanks for making the game, thought was short I really enjoyed it and have been thinking the possibilities of who the murderer could be if its not us.

I look forward to seeing more games from you.

(+1)

Wow! Thank you so much. Usually people give me feedback, but this is just pure motivation and praise. You are very, very kind πŸ’Œ Super appreciate the feedback and your thoughts on the game.
The game was short, due to me working on multiple projects and publishing them nearly at the same time. There were couple of ideas I was going to execute with the game, yet, the simple "who done it" story was enough, I think. Mason's character is interesting and I will sure make a sequel or even a prequel to this. Will see.
Once again, glad you enjoyed the game and hope to see you around my next projects. Cheers! πŸ’–

Thanks for responding.  I will keep a close eye for any new releases form you.

(+1)

yeah niven :P this cool short story . GG

Thank you for playing. Appreciate the feedback πŸ’Œ

(+1)

Short but not bad. Made a video on it.

(+1)

Thanks Fearagen. I hope this time, the recording software worked and you did not have to make adjustments with OBS and stuff.

(+1)

The game cooperated with borderless gaming this time. Didn't have to adjust anything with obs last time I had to change my windows resolution, so the game resolution was correct for 1080p60fps. In this case 1920x1080 as that is the standard resolution for common Televisions/phones/monitors.

Hi there, I am DragonExplosion and I am a Youtuber. If you like my videos, please leave a like and subscribe at my channel.

I was really surprised when I saw a new game trailer from Niven's Youtube Page as I just played a new game made by him not long ago but I did enjoyed the short playthrough of the game Mason due to the story of the game. I felt that there was quite a bit of potential with this game and that many things could have been done to make it even more horrifying and amazing than it was.

I liked the interrogation scene and despite having a few English errors here and there, I think it would have been cool if we get to see Mason's perspective from the day that he planned to kill his ex like many short scenes that progressed through the interrogation/interrupt the interrogation. (For instance, planning to kill, looking for the weapon, creating an alibi etc.) I feel that this would definitely prolong the game and provide many opportunities for the creator to create horrifying moments in the game.

Thank you for reading my comment and I wish you good luck in your future endeavours.

(+1)

Thanks for a great review, as always, great playthrough ✌
I do wonder however, what specific errors where you talking about with the "English" errors, I mean, I am from U.K. and that's genuinely how I speak and formulate words, well, I don't have an accent, but my primary education is English and I do have C2 level so, really wanted to know what those were. The dialogue is supposed to be a bit campy and early 2000s, so, maybe that's the issue.
As for the story, I had lot of things in mind, but due to working on 2 projects at the same time, I felt one was more important than the other. In the end, both turned out okay. I am planning on giving the character more back story in the upcoming games, maybe even a sequel or another story. Mason is a flawed character for sure.

(+1)

Hey Niven, I think you kinda misunderstood what I was trying to say. You are fluent in English and I have heard you speak before in your videos but what I was referring to, was the misspelling of words in the game. At 1:25 of my video, the word "interrogation" was spelt incorrectly. At 1:54 of my video, the word "exactly" was spelt wrongly. At 2:06 of my video, it should be "officers" instead of "officer's". I hope this help to clarify what I was saying in my previous comment and will be looking forward to more games made by you in the future.

(+1)

I see. Yeah, that's my bad. I found another one - "Admit is Mason" - instead of "Admit it Mason". Thanks! See, that's how important feedback is. I might update the game, maybe add somethig new and fix the problem with the text. Cheers!
